Rajasthan, with its diverse agro-climatic conditions is richly endowed with the cultivation of a variety of crops. Agriculture & allied activities make up for 24% of the State's GDP, with 62% of total working population of the State dependent on this for livelihood. In 2013-14, the total production of food grain of the State was estimated as199.88 lakh tonnes.

  • Rajasthan has the distinction of having largest population of cattle, sheep and camels. State contributes 12% of milk, 35% of goat meat & 40% of wool to the country's production. There are eight well defined breeds of sheep that produce quality carpet wool, and three breeds of goats.

Market Access

Rajasthan has proximity to large consumer markets in the region (in and around the NCR) that have a big share of India's food consumption. 8,380 sq km of Rajasthan falls in the National Capital Region (NCR), which is around 24.5% of the total NCR. Rajasthan shares its border with five major Indian states: Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Industries in Rajasthan have to their advantage, access to this enormous market.

Post-harvest infrastructure like Agro Food Parks at Kota, Jodhpur, Sriganganagar and Alwar have been developed by the State.
