Abundant power production

With firm steps to augment availability of power for industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural consumption, Rajasthan has a power generation capacity of over 17200 mw, with 3500 mw capacity under construction and an additional 34,243 mw sanctioned for the 13th Plan (2017-22).

The private sector controlled capacity is based on renewable energy sources, which are regulated by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Renewable energy sources such as the wind power, the solar energy and the biomass are being actively promoted by the State Government. Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd. (RRECL) is the nodal agency for development of energy from renewable energy sources in the State.

The capacity owned by the State utilities comprised about 71.20 per cent of coal-based power plants, 8.74 per cent of gas-based power plants, 19.46 per cent of hydropower plants and 0.60 per cent of renewable resources.
